We do one thing: layering systems that keep working when the temperature stops being polite. Every CryoTrace piece is prototyped in Estonia, worn through a full Nordic winter, and only then put on sale.
No seasonal noise, no 300-item catalogue. Each garment is designed to sit under or over the next one without bunching, riding up or trapping moisture.
850 fill-power RDS down in a windproof 20-denier shell. Built for static cold — belays, camp, bus stops at −30.
A hard shell for wind, sleet and horizontal rain. 20k/20k membrane, fully taped, helmet-compatible hood.
High-loft grid fleece that moves air instead of holding sweat. The piece most of our customers end up living in.
18.5-micron merino from a single mulesing-free supplier. Warm when damp, quiet when you sleep in it.
Synthetic-insulated bib with full side zips — get in and out without taking your boots off. Reinforced kick patches.
A removable merino liner inside a down-filled overmitt. Keep the liner on to work a stove or a zip.
Nine out of ten cold-weather failures we see are moisture failures — the wearer sweats on the climb and freezes on the descent. Everything below exists to move water vapour out before it condenses.
Body-mapped venting and a grid-knit mid layer create a pressure gradient that pushes moisture outward instead of parking it against your skin.
A three-layer laminate that stops 99.8 % of wind while still passing 20 000 g of vapour per square metre per day. Every seam is taped, not glued.
Scan the code on the tag and you get the farm group, the wash batch and the measured fill power of the exact down in your jacket.
Standard YKK hardware, replaceable cuffs and a free patch kit in every box. We repair CryoTrace garments for as long as we make the part.
Buy one piece at a time or the full kit — but build it in this sequence. Skipping the mid layer is the single most common mistake we see in support tickets.
Merino against the skin. It carries moisture away by capillary action and keeps roughly 80 % of its insulating value when damp, which synthetics simply do not do.
Grid fleece or light down builds the still-air pocket that actually holds your heat. This is the layer you add and remove as the effort changes.
Wind and water out, vapour still moving. A hard shell for storms, a down parka for standing still. Never both at once, and never over a wet mid layer.
“We don't sign athletes. We give the prototypes to 40 guides, postal workers and dog handlers who are outside for eight hours a day, and we read every complaint.”
Maret Kuusk — Head of Product, CryoTrace Outfit
Comfort ranges are measured on a moving wearer in still air. Add roughly 10 °C of perceived cold for every 20 km/h of wind if you are standing still.

Reviews are collected 30 days after delivery and published unedited — including the two-star ones, which you can filter for on every product page.
“Sixteen-hour shifts on a ski patrol in Åre. The grid fleece under the Stormshell is the first combination I haven't had to strip off halfway through a lift evacuation.”
“Bought the mitts for a February crossing in Finnmark at −38 °C. Kept the liners on the whole trip to work the stove. Zero numb fingers, which has never happened before.”
“Parka is superb, sizing runs slightly long in the sleeve. Support sent a shorter cuff kit free of charge within a week — that's the reason I'll buy again.”
Free EU delivery on orders above €150. Tracked door-to-door in 2–5 working days with DPD or Omniva; carbon-offset on every parcel.
Wear it outside. If it doesn't work for you, send it back within 60 days — used, as long as it's clean — and we refund the full amount to the original payment method.
Three years on materials and workmanship. Beyond that we repair at cost — zips, cuffs, baffles and small tears — for as long as the part is still produced.
The full three-layer system is field-tested to −45 °C in still air, and to roughly −30 °C with a 40 km/h wind. Every individual garment carries its own measured comfort range on the inner label and in the specification table above. Those numbers assume a wearer who is moving; if you are static, plan one layer warmer.
The Stormshell is a weather barrier with no insulation — it belongs over a mid layer when it is windy or wet above −15 °C. The Ridgeline is an insulated piece for standing still in dry cold. If you are mostly moving in Central European winters, the Stormshell plus the Vector fleece covers 90 % of days. If you work outdoors below −20 °C, start with the Ridgeline.
EU orders leave our Tallinn warehouse within 24 working hours and arrive in 2–5 working days. Delivery is free above €150 and €7.90 below that. UK, Switzerland, Norway and Iceland are shipped with duties prepaid, so there is nothing to pay on arrival. Full terms are on the shipping & returns page.
Yes — that is the point of the 60-day field trial. Wear the piece in real conditions, and if it is not right for you, return it within 60 days in a used but clean condition using the prepaid label in your box. We refund the full amount to the original payment method within 3–5 working days of receipt.
All down is certified to the Responsible Down Standard, with no live-plucking and no force-feeding anywhere in the supply chain. Each garment tag carries a batch code that resolves to the farm group, the wash facility and the independently measured fill power of that specific lot.
Machine wash at 30 °C on a gentle cycle with a down-specific detergent, never fabric softener, and rinse twice. Tumble dry on low with three clean tennis balls until the baffles are completely dry to the touch — usually two to three hours. Half-dried down is what causes the clumping people blame on the jacket.
One e-mail a month: restocks, field notes from the test programme, and a 24-page PDF on building a system that fits your actual climate.
